About the Artist

My work is often triggered by observations of and responses to the natural world. (Kew Gardens, Muse in the Garden (Oxford Botanic Gardens), Responses to Highgreen (Northumberland)

Although some has been more directly concerned with current events, e.g. the Brexit vote (Contemplations), the experience of lockdown in 2020 (Fragments), and the fragility of lives worldwide in these troubled 21st century times.

I may explore how similar symbols and shapes recur throughout nature & life, from basic cellular forms, to plant shapes, to structures & houses, landscapes and beyond (Rhythms, Cells & Symbols, Evocations, Nostalgia).

The effect Light has on what we see and on how we feel, and the myriad permutations of colour it allows us to experience, are also constant areas of fascination & wonder.

Alongside the fragility of our lives, our homes & families (Home Sweet Home), my work also explores and reflects on the fleetingness of memory (Memento Mori, Nostalgia)

Our individual responses to any given moment in time inevitably refer to the continual ebb and flow between the conscious and unconscious within our everyday existence, as well as reacting to the stark reality we are exposed to by the News, the reality of Climate Change & the erosion of our Natural World.
